Mathias Kristersson (b. 1979 in Malmö, Sweden) works with sculpture, performance, video and sound. Recurrent themes in his works are communication and language, in particular the individual’s ability to relate and interact with other people. This relationship is examined by way of language as phenomena and material construct. For Kristersson, language often represents as an obstacle in our attempt to communicate with each other. Investigating the borders of language, he unfolds the space between intention and reception and questions how language can construct reality.
Kristersson holds an MFA from Malmö Art Academy and Chicago College of Architecture and the Arts at University of Illinois. He has exhibited and performed internationally, most recently at 1A Space, Hong Kong, Centrul National al Dansului, Bukarest, Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm, Lilith Performance Studio, Malmö, Ystad Konstmuseum and The Green Lantern Gallery, Chicago. He lives and works in Malmö, Sweden.
